When it comes to patterns, the terms tartan, plaid, and check are often used interchangeably, leading to misconceptions. These patterns have distinct origins and unique characteristics that set them apart from one another.

Tartan: A Cultural Emblem:

Tartan is a pattern deeply rooted in Scottish heritage and has a significant historical and cultural significance. It originated in Scotland and was traditionally associated with clans and families, each having its own distinct tartan. Tartans are characterized by vertical and horizontal bands of different colors that intersect to form a grid-like pattern. The pattern is often made up of various colors, and each color combination represents a specific clan or region. Today, tartan is widely recognized and celebrated as a symbol of Scottish hertiage.

Plaid: A Symbol of Utility and Style:

Plaid is a pattern that emerged from the Scottish Highlands and shares similarities with tartan. However, plaid refers to the garment or cloth itself rather than the specific pattern. Historically, plaid referred to a large piece of fabric, often made of wool, worn as an outer layer or used as a blanket. The plaid pattern, often associated with tartan, features intersecting bands of colors forming a checkered pattern. Over time, plaid has evolved into a versatile pattern, seen in various colors and used in different types of clothing and accessories.

Check: A Classic and Versatile Pattern:

Check is a broad term encompassing a variety of patterns characterized by a grid-like structure. Unlike tartan and plaid, check patterns don't have any historical or cultural associations. Checks feature intersecting vertical and horizontal lines of equal width, creating squares or rectangles. They can be found in a range of sizes, colors, and designs.

While tartan, plaid, and check patterns share certain similarities, it's important to understand their distinctions. Tartan is deeply connected to Scottish heritage and carries symbolic significance, whereas plaid refers to the garment or cloth. Check patterns, on the other hand, encompass a broader range of designs and can be found in various contexts. The world of patterns can be complex, but understanding the distinctions allows us to appreciate their unique histories and characteristics.

White jeans are a staple in every fashionista’s wardrobe. They’re versatile and elevate any outfit. However, styling white jeans can sometimes be intimidating, as we often worry about getting them dirty or pairing them with the right pieces. Let’s explore together the art of styling white jeans. I’ll share tips and inspiration to create stunning outfits that exude effortless elegance.

The Power of Contrast:

One of the simplest ways to style white jeans is to play with contrasting colors. Dark hues, such as black, navy blue, or deep burgundy, create a striking contrast against the stark white. Pair your white jeans with a black leather jacket for a cool and edgy look, or opt for a navy blue blazer for a sophisticated touch. The interplay of light and dark tones will make your outfit pop and create a visually appealing ensemble.

Monochromatic Chic:

For a sleek and polished look, embrace monochromatic styling with white jeans. Choose a top in a similar shade of white or go for soft pastels like blush pink or light gray. Monochromatic outfits create a sophisticated and clean aesthetic that effortlessly elevates your overall appearance.

Play with Textures:

White jeans provide the perfect canvas for showcasing different textures and fabrics. Mix fabrics to add depth and visual interest to your outfit. Pair your white jeans with a chunky knit sweater for a cozy winter look, or opt for a flowing silk blouse for an elegant and feminine touch. The contrast between the smoothness of the fabric and the crispness of the white denim creates a captivating combination.

Casual Chic:

White jeans can be effortlessly styled for a laid-back and casual look. Create a relaxed vibe by pairing your white jeans with a striped or graphic tee. Layer a denim jacket over the top for an added touch of style. Complete the look with a pair of sneakers or ankle boots, and you're ready for a weekend brunch or a day out with friends.

White jeans are a fashion chameleon that can effortlessly adapt to any style or occasion. Don’t be afraid to experiment and have fun when styling them!

Fashion is a fascinating cosmos that continuously evolves, with trends rising and falling. Amidst this ever-changing landscape, there are certain pieces that have stood the test of time and retained their allure throughout the years. One iconic piece is the blazer, which has become a timeless symbol of elegance and style.

The blazer finds its roots in the early 19th century, specifically within the walls of rowing clubs in England. Initially they were designed as a uniform for members of rowing teams at Cambridge and Oxford universities, but quickly gained popularity for their practicality and distinctive style.

As fashion evolved, so did the blazer. It began to take on various forms and adapt to different styles. Blazers shed their double-breasted design, and single-breasted versions gained prominence, providing a more streamlined and contemporary look. Fabrics evolved as well, with options ranging from classic wool and tweed to lightweight linen and cotton blends. This versatility made blazers suitable for a wide array of occasions, from formal events to casual outings.

While blazers initially belonged to the realm of men's fashion, they quickly found their way into women's wardrobes in the 20th century. Inspired by the rising feminist movement and the need for functional yet stylish clothing, women began embracing blazers as a symbol of empowerment and sartorial sophistication. The blazer became a statement piece, exuding confidence and authority in both professional and social settings. Today, we can find them in a plethora of designs, cuts, and colors, further cementing their significance in modern fashion.

Are you a fan of blazers?

Are you familiar with the term quiet luxury? Quiet luxury in fashion is a term that refers to a subtle and understated elegance in clothing and accessories. Instead of flashy and ostentatious designs, it focuses on high-quality materials, craftsmanship, and timeless silhouettes.

The concept is all about simplicity, minimalism, and functionality. It's about investing in pieces that are not only beautiful, but practical and versatile. The focus is on high-quality, natural fabrics, and clean lines. Brands that specialize in quiet luxury often use a neutral color palette and focus on textures, patterns, and details to add interest to their designs.

One of the main appeals of quiet luxury in fashion is that it allows you to express your personal style without being too flashy. It's about understated elegance and sophistication, which is perfect if you want to look refined and polished.

It’s important to note this isn’t just a trend, but a lifestyle. It's about investing in quality pieces that will last for years, unlike fast fashion that tends to fall apart after a few washes. Additionally, it’s about taking a more mindful approach to fashion, and valuing timelessness and longevity over fleeting trends.

As mentioned, you can expect high-quality craftsmanship, natural fabrics, and clean lines, as well as neutral color palettes, and an emphasis on textures, patterns, and details. You would invest in pieces that are versatile, practical, and timeless. This concept is all about simplicity, minimalism, and functionality.

The luxury fashion industry is expected to continue growing in the coming years, with McKinsey projecting the growth expectancy between 5-10% in 2023. As consumers become more globally connected and informed, they are likely to seek out unique and exclusive luxury experiences, driving demand for luxury fashion products and services. So what can we expect for 2023?

One trend that is likely to continue in 2023 is the focus on sustainability. As consumers have become increasingly aware of the environmental impact of fast fashion, they are likely to demand more sustainable and eco-friendly options from fashion brands. I believe we’ll see an uprise in the use of sustainable materials such as organic cotton, linen, and hemp, as well as more brands adopting sustainable manufacturing practices, such as reducing water consumption and using renewable energy sources.

Another trend that is likely to continue in 2023 is the rise of the "resale" market. With the growth of the circular economy and the rise of the sharing economy, consumers are becoming more conscious of their consumption habits, and more willing to buy second-hand clothing. As a result, resale and vintage fashion will become increasingly popular, as people tend to be more inclined to invest in pieces that are unique and hold a special meaning. The rental and sharing models can also help reducing the environmental footprint and waste associated with fashion consumption.

A potential shift we’ll continue to see is the embrace of gender-neutral clothing, reflecting the growing acceptance of gender fluidity and the desire for people to be able to express themselves freely, regardless of gender identity.

No matter where 2023 will take us fashion wise, it promises to be an interesting one.

Happy New Year everyone! For the first post of the year, it's only fitting we start with a wrap up of the previous year. As you've seen the fashion industry saw a continuation of trends that had been building in previous years, with a focus on sustainable and ethical production, as well as an increased use of technology in both the design and retail process.

As I’m in my minimal style era I have been wondering how to style a festive look but still keep true to my current style. Festive styling doesn't always have to be flashy or over-the-top. In fact, minimal style can be just as effective for creating a chic, festive look. Here are some tips for dressing in a minimal style for a holiday event:

  1. Choose a neutral color palette: Stick to a monochromatic look or go for a classic black-and-white combo. This will give your outfit a sleek, modern feel.
  2. Opt for clean, simple lines: Look for pieces with minimal embellishments and a streamlined silhouette. A slip dress, for example, can be both elegant and understated.
  3. Accessorize sparingly: Choose one statement piece, like a pair of statement earrings or in my case a padded pearl headband, and let it be the focal point of your outfit.
  4. Incorporate texture: Experiment with different fabrics and textures to add depth and interest to your look. A silky dress, for example, can add a luxe touch to a minimal outfit.

Overall, the key to festive dressing in a minimal style is to choose high-quality pieces that are timeless and versatile. By sticking to a neutral color palette and opting for clean lines and minimal embellishments, you can create a chic, sophisticated look that is perfect for any holiday event.

Tweed is a rough, woolen fabric that has been a popular choice for clothing for centuries. Did you know it’s named after the Tweed River in Scotland, where the fabric was first made in the 19th century?

The history of tweed in fashion can be traced back to the early 1800s, when it was worn by the elite as a form of outdoor wear. It was particularly popular among British aristocrats and wealthy landowners, who wore it for hunting and other outdoor pursuits. But it was also popular among farmers and working-class people in rural areas, who wore it for its durability and practicality.

Over time, tweed became associated with a traditional, classic style, worn by both men and women. In the 20th century, it became a staple of business attire and was frequently worn by politicians and business leaders. It was also embraced by the counterculture of the 1960s, who wore it as a form of rebellion against the more formal, tailored suits that were popular at the time.

Today, tweed is still a popular choice for clothing, particularly in the fall and winter months. It is often used to make suits, coats, and other formal wear, as well as more casual items such as jackets and hats.

Another reason for tweed's popularity is its rich history and association with classic, timeless style. Chanel's use of tweed helped to modernize the fabric and make it more fashionable. As mentioned above, tweed had been associated with traditional, old-fashioned clothing, but Chanel used it in a more youthful and modern way, creating jackets and suits that were both stylish and comfortable. Chanel's designs, including her tweed suits and jackets, became extremely popular and helped to establish her as one of the most influential designers of her time. Today, tweed is still associated with Chanel's iconic style and continues to be a popular choice for clothing.

Coats are an essential piece to own, especially for the autumn season.

They are a stylish addition to any autumn wardrobe. From classic peacoats and trenches to trendy bomber jackets and puffers, there are countless styles to choose from to suit your personal fashion sense. A coat can be the perfect finishing touch to any outfit, adding a touch of sophistication and polish.

Furthermore, owning a coat is a practical investment. A good quality coat can last for years, making it a worthwhile purchase that will pay off in the long run. Whether you opt for a timeless classic or a more trend-forward style, a coat is a versatile item that can be worn season after season.

It also provides warmth and protection. As the temperatures begin to drop, a coat can help to keep you warm and comfortable as you go about your daily activities. Whether it's a light raincoat for a drizzly day or a heavy parka for a snowstorm, having a coat on hand can make all the difference in staying comfortable during the colder months.

You can see where I’m going with this, coats are an essential piece to own for the autumn season due to their practicality, style, and versatility.

Which is your favourite style?

Stripes have been a classic in fashion for decades, and they will continue to remain a staple in the world of fashion.

A lot of it has to do with the fact that stripes are timeless. They never seem to go out of style and can be worn by people of all ages. Whether you're a teenager trying to make a fashion statement or an adult looking for a timeless wardrobe staple, stripes can work for anyone.

Another reason for the enduring popularity of stripes is their versatility. Striped clothing can be dressed up or down, making them perfect for a wide range of occasions. A striped shirt can be paired with dress pants or a skirt for a more formal look, while a striped t-shirt can be paired with jeans or shorts for a casual, laid-back vibe.

Stripes can also be worn in a variety of colors and widths, making them suitable for different body types and skin tones. Thin, vertical stripes can be slimming and elongating, while thicker, horizontal stripes can be more forgiving and add visual interest to an outfit.

Lastly, stripes add a bit of fun and personality to an outfit. Whether you opt for a bold, brightly-colored striped shirt or a more understated, monochromatic striped dress, adding stripes to your wardrobe can help you stand out and express your personal style.

Overall, stripes are a classic in fashion because they are timeless, versatile, and add a touch of personality to any outfit. Whether you're looking for a casual, laid-back look or a more formal, polished ensemble, stripes can be a great addition to your wardrobe.

Is it to early to start sparkly season mid-October? Not in my books! Sparkly pieces can add some glamour and shimmer to any outfit, but it can be difficult to style them in a way that is both casual and elegant. Here are some tips on how to do just that:

  1. Balance is key. If you're wearing a sparkly top, pair it with more casual, understated bottoms like jeans or a skirt, in a solid colour. On the other hand, if you're wearing sparkly pants or a skirt, balance them out with a more simple, solid-colored top.
  2. Choose the right accessories. Sparkly clothes can stand on their own, so keep your accessories minimal. Opting for dainty jewelry will compliment the look and will add a touch of shine without overwhelming your outfit.
  3. Opt for casual, comfortable shoes. Sparkly clothes can already be a bit dressy, so opt for casual shoes like sneakers or boots to keep the look more relaxed.
  4. Layer your sparkly pieces. If you're feeling a bit self-conscious about wearing a lot of sparkle, try layering your sparkly pieces under more understated clothing. For example, I wore my sparkly top under a blazer to tone it down.
  5. Embrace the sparkle. If you're feeling confident and want to embrace the sparkle, go for it! Confidence can make any outfit, it’s all about how YOU wear the clothes. Remember YOU wear them, DON’T let them wear you!

By following these tips, you can rock sparkly clothes in a casual yet elegant way. Remember, the key is to balance your sparkly pieces with more understated items and to keep your accessories minimal. So go ahead and add some shimmer to your wardrobe – you'll be sure to turn heads with your chic, casual-yet-elegant sparkly style!

Autumn is here and with it comes a new series of fashion trends to try out. One trend that has been gaining popularity in recent years is the high heel knee high boot.

These boots are a stylish and chic addition to any autumn wardrobe, and they are versatile enough to be dressed up or down depending on the occasion. They can be paired with shorts, skirts, leggings, or a dress, and they add a touch of sophistication to any outfit.

One of the great things about knee high boots is that they elongate the leg, creating a slim and sleek silhouette, and the high heels make them a great choice for women who are vertically challenged like myself.

There are many different styles of knee high boots with high heels to choose from and a variety of materials, such as leather, suede, and even rubber.

If you're looking to add a pair of knee high boots with a high heel to your autumn wardrobe, there are a few things to consider. First, make sure that the boots fit well and are comfortable to walk in. It's also important to choose a heel height that you feel comfortable with, as you'll be wearing these boots for extended periods of time.

Another thing to consider is the color of the boots. While black is always a classic choice, there are also many other colors to choose from, just make sure it complements the rest of your wardrobe.

Overall, knee high boots are a must-have for any fashion-forward woman this autumn. They are stylish, versatile, and can be comfortable, not to mention they add a touch of sophistication to any outfit. So why not give them a try?

This summer holiday has been very special as I've only visited the Amalfi coast once as a teenager and have very few memories, I doubt I appreciated it as I should have. So coming back as an adult and for my 31st birthday has been a wonderful experience. I will make an Amalfi Coast guide at a later date, but for now let's have a look at some of the outfits I wore. Again, I didn't take as many pictures as I would have in the past, but more than my Palma trip.

You'll notice a lot of cotton and linen pieces, just as I've promised since the beginning of summer. Mixed in there is also a gorgeous silky number and straw accessories. The straw hat has been a dream keeping me protected from the harsh sun and still looking fashionable.

Also kept true to my word and travelled with a capsule wardrobe full of white, blue and nude pieces. Of course the best part is that by doing so, all of the pieces match each other and can be styled together creating numerous outfits. It was fun having the option to mix and match more outfits that I could wear in a day while still not overflowing my suitcase. Would you travel with a capsule wardrobe?

It's my birthday month aka summer holidays month! Woop woop! I always get excited when June comes around because I tend to plan my summer vacation around my birthday, one of the perks of being born at the end of June. I'm also a 100% summer baby who loves the warm weather and June is the start of summer, which means I am back in cute cotton or linen dresses. My summer uniform is definitely a cotton shirt dress for everyday and a silky dress for evening.

Lately I've also been obsessed with adding a linen blazer on top whenever it gets a bit chilly, fashion must have. The best part is you can find nice linen blazers from high street and luxury brands. You can experiment with a high street purchase and if you wear it consistently all summer, invest in a better quality one next year.

Check out H&M, Zara, COS, &OtherStories, Massimo Dutti as they all currently have lovely linen pieces in stock. Or if you're ready to spend on designer linen pieces I recommend looking at Jacquemus, Aje, Ralph Lauren, Zimmermann, Reformation.

In my last post I shared how relaxing and in the spur of the moment this Mallorca trip was, and how freeing that turned out to be. Although I flew with a suitcase of outfits, I only took pictures of a couple of those and this is the second one. My summer style still includes a lot of linen and a white & blue colour scheme, which you'll get to see as we go more into summer. Keep an eye out on my Instagram account

This was my first time visiting Mallorca and the city of Palma, and it did not disappoint. This was a 100% girls trip, and a perfect one at that. Not your typical girls trip as there was close to no partying involved. We mostly caught up while lounging on the beach or at the pool, read a few books and had amazing food. The most activity we had was going into Palma to visit the city.

After ticking off the Catedral-Basilica de Santa Maria de Mallorca, I would recommend just roaming around and getting "lost" on the streets of Palma. Of course make sure you have a fully charged phone and internet reception in order to make your way back to the hotel or a central point of meeting with friends. But it's worth just walking the center with no specific destination in mind, just a curious attitude to explore and enjoy the city. After a good walk, stop at a nice restaurant or bar for some tapas and relax while sipping some amazing wine.

This was the most relaxing holiday where the only worry of the day was which drink to chose, highly recommend you plan a girls trip like this. You'll feel refreshed and energized after.

I took a lovely weekend trip to Amsterdam this April, actually hadn't visited since my 27th birthday when I traveled there for the first time. Amsterdam is beautiful and I enjoyed visiting again after 4 years. Have to say I walked around a lot more this time around and discovered new restaurants, and looking forward to the next visit.

Rather than creating an outfit post for each look, I thought you might enjoy having them paired up in one post. They were all very much me, shirt, blazer and trousers or a dress for the flower gardens. What is your go to outfit?
