5 Tips to survive the flu

Don't you just love how I'm starting this new month on such a positive note?! I mean, can you even? ahaha No, but for real babes, it wasn't planed to start like this, but sadly I have the flu. Instead of feeling sorry for myself, I decided to share some tips to help you, in case you have the flue or feeling down for whatever reason.

I don't know about where you're living, but in Milan everyone seems to be sick, I swear everyone in my office had the flu. I was lucky enough to avoid it until now, but apparently saying I'm super heathy and won't get it made karma slap me in the face with some flu. To provide even more entertainment, I filmed these tips. So in case you want to see and hear me ramble on have a look, would make me super happy, but I'm also sharing them in writing. Also, in the video there are three extra tips for you!

Have a pink-tastic day!
Kisses

1. Drink a lot of water and eat fruit. Water is important in general, but especially when you're sick. Fruit are full of vitamins, which is exactly what your body needs. In case you hate eating them, you can also drink vitamin C, which is a powerful antioxidant that reduces cold symptoms.

2. A nice cup of tea is soothing and warms you up, which is why it's my second must. You can go for green tea, a personal fave, or fruit tea or any you enjoy. I would suggest adding a teaspoon of raw honey, which again has a lot of benefits like being anti-bacterial and boosting your immune system.

3. Depending on your culture this one may differ, but a nice bowl of soup is simply heaven. Sometimes when everything seems to hurt and it's hard to breath because of the cold, you loose appetite, at least I do, but a soup is easy to eat and full of nutritious goodness. Eating a bone broth eases flu symptoms, reduces inflammation and improves your sleep.

4. My next tip is to take vitamins, natural ones would be best. This is something I do daily, not just when I have the flu. They can help strengthen your immune system so you're less likely to get sick. Also, once you get the flu take whatever pills you feel comfortable with. I know not everyone likes to take medicine, but letting it get worse and infecting everyone in your surroundings isn't nice. Ask your mother, doctor or pharmacist what they recommend and listen to them.

5. The last tip is to sleep! Your body is fighting against the bacterias that are making you sick, so you need to take it easy and try to rest as much as possible.

Do you have any extra tips?

  8. Lovely tips. As a student naturopath I recommend warming foods like soup and herbal tea, lots of fluid, and vitamins like zinc and Vit C.

In terms of tea, green wouldn't be my go to as it's not the most powerful or specific in terms of fighting off a cold. In my industry we commonly prescribe "YEP" tea which is a combination of yarrow, elderflower and peppermint. I also like to add echinacea into it too. Echinacea is actually the best thing you could drink in tea form to help.

Oh and my favorite tip of all is raw garlic! Crush a clove and eat it at the first sign of a cold and you won't even get sick 9 times out of 10.

  9. My favourite tip that I've managed to find is to eat Marshmallows, how random right? But it really helps soothe a sore throat and because they can be quite surgery, they give you that surge of energy :)
